Neyland 2

Goodwick United 0

NEYLAND gained a hard fought two-goal victory at home against ten-man Goodwick United.

Gary Power scored in the first half and Scott Jones sealed Neyland’s fifth win of the season with a superb strike from the halfway. This win moved the Nomads up to fifth in the table while Nigel Delaney’s Goodwick troops have slipped down to eighth.

The hosts started positively and Goodwick were penned deep in their half of the field. Neyland had several long throws launched into the Goodwick penalty area which were well defended. On 20 minutes Goodwick had a great opportunity to open the scoring. A superb through ball from Rob Morgans put Rhys Dalling clear and his effort beat the advancing Patrick Hannon, but also struck right hand post.

A minute later Neyland had another throw in 20 yards out. This was taken by Gary Power the ball was returned to Power and his cross eluded everyone in the box and found the far corner.

Goodwick responded as a shot from Morgans was diverted to Dalling and his first time shot was brilliantly pushed wide by Hannon.

Again Morgans released Dalling and his low shot was again saved by Hannon.

Things got worse for the visitors when they went down to ten men. The visitors were awarded a free-kick Neyland’s Henry Durrant stood on the ball and he was pushed out of the way by Wayne O'Sullivan, who wanted to take a quick free kick quickly. Referee Tudor Walters felt O'Sullivan was over aggressive and issued him a straight red card.

In the second half Neyland defended a lot deeper and their central defenders, Paul Hannon and Nick Koomen, denied Goodwick any space to release the dangerous Dalling.

The Nomads were content to trying to hit the visitors on the break, but Llyr Tobin was outstanding in defence for the visitors.

With 15 minutes to go Dalling collected a ball 25 yards out and hit a fierce right footed shot which beat Hannon but crashed off the crossbar. Neyland cleared the danger, which was collected by James Gwilt, the Goodwick keeper dribbled past two Neyland players before he was dispossessed on half way and Scott Jones struck a superb shot from at least 50 yards out that found the back of net.
