FAW Trophy – Round Four:
Hakin United 5-1 Pencoed Athletic
HAKIN United proved too hot for Pencoed Athletic to handle at The Observatory, moving into the last 16 of the prestigious FAW Trophy.
The hosts suffered their first league defeat last week at Tenby, but Gary Dawes’ men reacted in a positive manner with a superb cup victory at The Observatory.
The Vikings played with a three-four-three formation, at the back were Andrew Kingston, skipper Ewan Findlay and Jonty Bennett who were rock solid in defence. In midfield Steve Mathias, Adam Davies, James Stanmore and Ashley Bevan worked tirelessly and the three up front consisting of Justin Harding, veteran Paul Jones and Nicky Woodrow were a constant thorn in the visitors’ defence.
The Vikings deservedly led 3-1 at half time as Harding opened the scoring followed by a well-taken brace by Woodrow.
The Vikings controlled matters in the second period and they were rewarded as Adam Davies also scored twice to seal a comfortable victory against the team from Bridgend, as Mark Turner scored their only goal.
Hakin United: James Manson, Jonty Bennett, Andrew Kingston, Ewan Findlay, Ashley Bevan, Steve Mathias, James Stanmore, Adam Davies, Paul Jones, Nicky Woodrow, Justin Harding. Subs: Dan Evans, Michael Cooper, Ben Aldred.
