Welsh Cup, Round Three

Airbus UK 5

Haverfordwest 0

A RATHER defensively minded Bluebirds side was out-marshalled by an accomplished Airbus outfit which showed that their fourth-place standing in the Welsh Premier is no fluke.

Wayne Jones went into the game with a tight formation, with Sean Pemberton alongside Sam Rodon and Dale Griffiths in the defence and Jordan Follows as lone striker. This line-up kept the Airbus attack subdued for 35 minutes and in that time the Blues might have taken the lead when a floated ball from Greg Walters put Follows through but the striker, having evaded two defenders, couldn’t quite beat the keeper as well.

Two goals in three minutes rocked the Bluebirds before half-time, headers from Jonny Spittle and Ellis Healing doing the damage.

A third goal from Glenn Rule early in the second half saw the introduction of Declan Carroll as sub and he sparked a few decent attacks. But after Jordan Barrow had added a fourth, the Blues were really chasing the game, and, after sub Gwion Howell had gone close with one header, a 90th minute goal from Jake Eyre completed the defeat.

Next Saturday the Blues entertain Penybont kick-off 2.30pm.
