LAST Saturday, saw the playing of the December Monthly Medal sponsored by Leigh Evans of The Harbourmaster, Milford Marina. Leigh has been a long time sponsor of this event and his support is greatly appreciated.

The threatened rain held off and the competition was played in pleasant almost balmy conditions not usually associated with winter golf. Lyndon Brown was the man in form scoring a highly impressive gross 70 nett 67 sweeping up both the Monthly Medal prize and best gross. Unfortunately, Lyndon was unable to attend to collect his just rewards as he had a prior appointment with Father Christmas!

The course standard scratch was 70 leading to several handicap revisions; Liam Eva 3-2, Leigh Evans 3-4 and Lea Nicholas 5-6.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, there were a total of 12 ladies playing in their weekly tournament in difficult weather conditions so all credit to them for persevering with the elements. The winner was Pearl Slate with a score of 31 points and the runner-up was Liz Durward with 29 points. There were no twos recorded so the money will roll over to next week's kitty.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, 29 seniors took part in the third turkey trot non counting stableford competition of the winter. On a frosty morning; with the course having dried out from the previous week and with the greens in excellent condition which led to some good scores being returned with the top three scores all on 41 points.

The winner with 41 points was club captain Gwyn Scale who received a meat voucher of £15; with Richard getting a voucher for £10 with 3rd place Howard a £5 voucher. In the next Turkey trot Gwyn will have two stableford points deducted from his final score with Richard and Howard having one point each deducted.

Once again the highlight of the day was a two on the par three 6th hole Badgers when Geoff Davies hit his first hole-in-one; congratulations Geoff.

In twos competition the kitty was shared by two players with Geoff Davies being credited with two twos for his hole-in-one and guest player Keith Fletcher hitting the other two.

Last Tuesday, another large turnout of 29 players played in a stableford competition on a day which was marred by heavy rain showers; the course wet under foot but dry enough for the use of buggies; once again the greens were in excellent condition for the time of year.

The winner of the competition was Richard Brock with 40 points.

The twos kitty was shared between Russell James, Richard Setterfield and Brian Mitchell.

Seniors Stableford turkey trots will be played on the following Thursdays; 11 and 18 December, first draw will be at 10.30am.

Tuesday’s stableford competitions first draw after the ladies section has vacated the first tee at 11.15am.

Today (Thursday) the seniors will be holding their annual Christmas dinner and presentation; golf will be played in the morning starting at 10.30am.

Seniors A.G.M.

THE seniors section of the club held their annual general meeting in the club lounge last Thursday, which was attended by 29 members with apologies from three others.

A minutes silence was held in memory of former senior members who have passed away in the last 12 months. Bill Ross December 2013; Vic Crosland February 2014 and Gordon Wright May 2014.

The minutes of the 2013 AGM was read and without any matters arising and was unanimously agreed as a true record and was passed.

The hand - over of Captains will take place at the seniors Christmas dinner and presentation which will be held (today) Thursday in Greens Restaurant.

Juniors

QUIET weekend, as the older juniors played in the Men's Monthly Medal, and the mini-golf is finished for this year.

The 7-hole competition was won by Josh Hutchings, with excellent efforts in the bitter cold by Jayden Morgan and Hollie Jenkins.

Neyland Golfing Society

LAST Wednesday, the Neyland Golf Society Monday golfers held their second annual tournament and Christmas dinner at the club. Thirteen golfers enjoyed 18 holes in glorious sunshine; with the course in good condition for the time of year and the greens in really excellent condition which led to some good scores being returned; the players were joined later by four other members who all enjoyed an excellent meal off the Christmas menu in Greens Restaurant provided by the club’s chef Patrick and his catering staff.

The day was organised by Mike Durward who had collected the money from the players throughout the year and had arranged the food through Patrick. The presentation was carried out by Owain Picton and Mike.

The society meets every Monday morning (except Bank Holidays) teeing off at 10.00am; all society members are very welcome to come and play.

Alan John has volunteered to collect the money and organise next year’s Christmas dinner.

Quiz Night

QUIZ master for the night was Alan John six teams of four took part. The winners were The Bar Baas with 73 points despite only having three men in their team they donated their prize money to the junior section. Second was Middle England and 3rd was Three Wise Golfers.

Free raffle winners were Pauline Summons, Margaret Hicks, Pearl Slate Darryl McCarthy, and Darren Bowyer.

Turkey bingo

THIS Friday and next Wednesday are the annual Turkey bingo nights where he prizes are wine beer and meat vouchers. Always a fun evening eyes down at 7pm loads of games and fun to be had as always your caller will be Owain Picton.
