Seniors

BECAUSE of the predicted very heavy rain and very high winds on Thursday, December 18 the seniors’ turkey trot was cancelled; but it did not deter nine seniors going out to play the top nine holes twice and according to information received it only rained on the very last par three hole.

Last Tuesday, thirty golfers played in the stableford competition on a dry day with the greens once again in excellent condition. The winner was John (Sandy) Sanderson with an excellent 42 points.

There will be no senior’s competition played in the week of Christmas; the next senior’s competition will be a whisky trot on Thursday, January 1 with the first draw at 10.30am.

The seniors will be holding stableford competitions on the following dates in January; Thursday 8; 15; 22; and 29; it is the intention of the seniors committee to introduce a fun competition on one of these dates; they will also hold a fun competition in February and March dates to be advised.

Tuesday’s stableford competitions first draw after the ladies section has vacated the first tee at 11.15am.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, seven ladies braved the cold to play in their weekly tournament. Numbers are always lower come the winter months but all credit to the keen ladies who managed to play 18 holes. The winner was Pearl Slate with 29 points (who is on a winning streak the past few weeks), and the runner up was Barbara Phillips with 28 points who beat Cheryl Eva on countback with 28 points also. There were no two's recorded so the kitty rolls over to next week.

Juniors

A BUSY Saturday, with the December monthly medal sponsored by Port Engineering, this was won by Josh Lewis, with Thomas Wood in second place.

The final round of the mini golf winter league, which turned into a shoot out between Tommy and Olly Vaughan-Harries going down to the last put on the final hole. An excellent score of 21 was enough to give Tommy victory on the day, and therefore become the first ever mini golf winter league winner, beating brother Olly by one point.

The mini golf Xmas Texas scramble, kindly sponsored by Andrew Vaughan-Harries of Hayston Planning. The winning score was 14 shots by the Team of Naomi Charnley, Sammy Vaughan-Harries and Thomas Wood, with runners-up being the sponsors Team made up by Jayden Morgan and Josh Hutchings. The prizes and presents for all competitors were presented by Elliot 'Santa' Harding, and food was provided in The Greens restaurant for all, with the curry warming the adults up nicely - thanks once again to Andrew Vaughan-Harries.

The winter match play on Saturday mornings will continue throughout January, and the first tee is still reserved at 2pm for those who wish to play a few holes during the cold months. Check website and emails for 2015 events, and Merry Xmas from Elliot and Simon.
