Father and son win Winter League

LAST Saturday, saw the final of the Winter League played in a strong south-westerly wind and cold, cloudy conditions. The final was between Club No. 1 Shaun Dyson partnered with Club Captain Gwyn French against father and son team Chris and Nathan Day. Shaun was giving shots to Chris and Nathan which they quickly used by going two up after three holes. They continued to increase their good form by going five up with six to play. Gwyn could not make the most of his 13 shots although he pulled back to dormy three, but they halved the 16th hole so the Day’s who played extremely well won the match.

D. Rackley and K. Bowen finished third after beating J. Price and P. Kingston in a very tight game.

The Plate Competition was won by D. Humphreys & A. Picton, and also R. J. Roberts & B. Harding, both teams finished with 133pts. Third was L. Nicholas & I. McCarthy with 126pts.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, on an overcast day with quite a breeze blowing an excellent turnout of 40 seniors played in a stableford competition which was also a blind team competition postponed from the week before.

The winner of the individual stableford competition was Richard Brock with another excellent 40 points; this was Richard’s third win in the last four competitions, but as this was a counting competition for handicaps and he has had his handicap reduced from 16.7 to 15.5 and will be playing off a handicap of 16 in his next competition; Richard was two points ahead of last week’s winner Russell James who was in the runners up spot with John Hicks a further point back in third place.

Results

1, Richard Brock 40 points

2, Russell James 38 points

3, John Hicks 37 points

In the Blind team competition which was organised by Mike Durward the draw for the teams was drawn after all the players had completed their rounds; the winning team with a total of 97 points; John Clark 34 points; Gerald Slate 29 points and Owain Picton 34 points; it was Owain’s birdie on the last hole which sealed the win for the team as the team in second place also had 97 points.

The twos kitty was shared by Geoff Davies, Richard Brock, John Hicks and Martyn Price.

As this competition was counting for handicaps the Course Standard Scratch for the day was 36 points which meant that the following players have had their handicap adjusted; John Hicks from 25 to 24; Richard Brock from 17 to 16; Frank Rimmer from 25 to 26; Peter Ryder from 17 to 18 and Howard Webber from 17 to 18.

Ladies

LAST Saturday, the Milford Ladies played the second round of the Mail on Sunday. Their opponents were Haverfordwest, but the Milford ladies had home advantage although the match was expected to be tough. The weather was dry with a brisk wind but the home team managed to win 3 & 2.

On Sunday, the ladies played for the Brian Warlow Shield. After a very wet morning the afternoon was warm and sunny making it a joy to be out. As this competition is for three clubs and a putter it can be more of a challenge but it didn't seem to bother Keri Broome too much as she came in with a winning score of 34 points. Runner up was Diana Warlow with 27 points. Karen Pullen achieved a two on hole16, the only lady to do so. The presentation was carried out by Ladies Vice Captain Veronica John.
