Haverfordwest County were reluctantly forced to postpone two money making pre-season friendly games through no fault of the club in the space of ten days.

Last week, Championship outfit Cardiff City pulled the plug at the last hour, and this week, Premiership Club Swansea City have also broken their promise to play on the Conygar Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds had over eight thousand hits each on their Facebook page for both games and were looking forward to a decent crowd, but both top Welsh clubs withdrew at the last hour.

Bitterly disappointed Haverfordwest County chairman David Hughes said: “It is annoying that all the hard work which goes into hurriedly arranging a fixture of this sort is not acknowledged when a decision like this is made.

“It was Swansea City who contacted me late last Thursday asking for this game to be arranged. It seems strange that 72 hours later their lack of human resources causes the game to be cancelled.

“It also appears that the officials responsible for calling off this game have done so with no regard taken to its importance from my club’s perspective and also that of the local Swansea City fans.

“Their decision will have adverse effects on our preparation for a tough season back in the Welsh Premier League; also this is the second big financial blow that we have taken within ten days. I am appalled and, from my point of view, the decision taken by Swansea City FC has to be considered as an unprofessional one in the circumstances.”

A Swansea spokesman said: "The game was hastily arranged on Thursday and cancelled on Sunday.

"Unfortunately, a number of under-21 players are required to supplement the first-team training programme this week, while a few returned from the pre-season tour to Holland carrying injuries.

"The club would normally supplement with players from the under-18s, but they are currently away training in Prague.

"The club have apologised profusely to Haverfordwest and offered to rearrange the game for later in the season to fit in around their fixtures .

"We took a team to Haverfordwest last season for a friendly and the club remains committed to assisting our local football fraternity wherever and whenever possible."

Last Saturday, Haverfordwest County lost 2-1 at home against Briton Ferry Llansawel. New striker John Roberts scored his side’s only goal.

On Thursday (July 30) night Haverfordwest County have quickly arranged a game at home against Welsh League Division One Cardiff Metropolitan, kick-off is at 7.30pm.

Haverfordwest County: Craig Morris, Richard Hughes, Spencer Williams, Sam Rodon, Dale Griffiths, Nicky Palmer, Kieran Howard, Alex Gammond, Jordan Follows, Craig Moses, John Roberts. Subs: Scott James, Greg Walters, Declan Carroll, Jack Christopher, Luke Borrelli, Ricky Watts.
