Eddie Merry Cup semi final:

Goodwick United 9-0 Cardigan Town

ROB Morgans starred with four goals as Goodwick United eased into a second successive Eddie Merry Cup final with a big win over Cardigan Town at St Mary's Field.

The Senior Cup holders led 4-0 at the break, and then added five more goals after half time in what proved to be a one sided clash with the Costcutter Ceredigion League champions.

The contest started in fiery fashion, with referee Sean O'Connor, rather than dish out cards, sensibly asking both managers to substitute Goodwick's Anthony Couzens and Cardigan's Slovak Waleczek following a clash between the two.

And then inside 10 minutes, the Phoenix Boys were ahead when Wayne O' Sullivan's header across goal was met by Jonny Horgan, who nodded in from close range.

The same player then headed a Rhys Dalling cross wide with the goal gaping, and dragged a left foot shot wide before Morgans made it 2-0 in spectacular fashion.

The midfielder stood over a free kick on half way, and spotted Cardigan keeper Casey Walters off his line before launching a shot over his head and into the top corner.

Adam Raymond then struck the bar for Goodwick with a free kick of his own before Morgans added a third, hammering a low right foot shot underneath Walters.

The one way traffic continued and before the break Karl Hedley scored a fourth, heading home the rebound after Dalling had struck the woodwork.

Raymond was again denied early in the second half when another free kick cannoned off the post, but the new signing soon made it 5-0 with a neat angled finish into the far corner.

For Cardigan, who included former Goodwick midfielder James Evans in their line up,  chances were few and far between, although striker John Lumb saw his shot blocked from close range before Justin Williams followed up and fired narrowly over.

But Morgans then completed his hat trick when he deftly chipped Walters when clean through, and moments after, added his fourth, and his team's seventh, with a diving header from six yards out.

Jake Davies made it 8-0 with a deflected shot - before Dalling completed the rout when he rounded Walters and tapped home to complete a decent night's work for manager Nigel Delaney and assistant Chris O'Sullivan's side.

Goodwick will now face Merlins Bridge this Friday, August 7th, in a repeat of last season's final that the Phoenix Boys won on penalties.

The final will kick off at 6.15pm at St Mary's Field, with all proceeds again going to the Abergwaun Gateway Club.
