Seniors

THE club entertained eight senior pairs from Tenby golf club in Milford’s last home friendly match of the season held last Thursday.

Most matches finished with some pairs having a half with a couple of holes to play as heavy rain struck the course. The result was a win for the home team by 4.5 matches to 3.5 matches.

The Milford seniors’ captain Brian Mitchell welcomed Peter Williams and his team from Tenby and said that he was sorry that the rain came earlier than expected but did not spoil the day. Peter in reply thanked the Milford caters staff for a very good meal and the green staff for providing an excellent course to play on.

The Milford team who played and results are as follows: Brian Mitchell and Geoff Davies won; Owain Picton and Tony Davey won; Russell James and Trevor Dean halved; Brian Keen and Gerald Charles won; Mike Ballentine and Brian Morgans halved; Keith Tuson and David Christopher lost; Roy John and George Davies snr lost; Chris Naylor and Dick Wooding snr halved.

Last Tuesday, an excellent turnout of 39 seniors plus one guest took part in the weekly competition which was played in place of the Thursday’s competition as the seniors were entertaining Tenby seniors on the Thursday in their annual friendly match.

The competition was a medal round and with the course in excellent condition which led to some very low scores being returned; the winner on the day was 13 handicapper Russell James returning a gross 75 nett, 62 one shot below Steve Brown nett 63 off a 22 handicap with Owain Picton a further shot behind with a nett 64.

Twos kitty was shared by Martyn Price 4th hole “Valley”; Guest Andy Knight 4th hole “Valley”; Russell James 10th Hole “The Docs”.

As it was a counting competition players who did not play to their handicap received .1 back; Russell James who had a shot back in the last competition will now play off a handicap of 11 a reduction of two shots; also with two shot reductions are Steve Brown from 22 to 20 and Ivor McKenzie from 13 down to 11 (including one shot for exceptional scoring over the last few competitions); losing one shot was Owain Picton from 12 down to 11 and Martyn Price from 21 down to 20; in the opposite direction Howard Webber from 18 to 19.

The presentation was carried out by seniors’ Captain Brian Mitchell.

Last Thursday 20th roll up was organised where 16 players took part.

As it was a counting competition players who did not play to their handicap received .1 back. The only changes of the day was Gwyn Scale from 12 back down to 11; Steve Phillips from 14 to 15 and John Sanderson from 14 to 15.

In the twos competition the kitty was won by Gwyn Scale with the only two of the day on the 8th hole “Doc’s”.

There are still a few places spare for the seniors’ trip to “The Grove” golf club on Monday, September 7.

Gents

UNFORTUNATELY due to the wet weather at the weekend, the Chapman Foursomes and the Hackin Smith competitions both had to be postponed. The Chapman Foursomes will now be played on Saturday, September 5, and the date for the Hackin Smith Competition is still to be confirmed. Next Saturday is Rabbit’s Captains Day.

Ladies

EIGHT ladies played in the weekly roll up held last Tuesday. The weather was glorious and with the course in excellent condition the scores proved it. The winner with an excellent 42 points was Liz Durward and the runner up also with 42 points but beaten on the back nine was Pearl Slate. Pearl also recorded two twos in the competition on 6th and 10th holes winning the prize pot this week. Vice Captain Veronica John held the presentation.
