Division Four:

Solva 2nds 1-3 Fishguard Sports 2nds

THE only football game to take place in Pembrokeshire was at Maes-Y-Mor on Saturday as Fishguard Sports 2nds registered a win in torrential weather against home side Solva.

The visitors started well as striker Jonny Williams twice went through - but put his first effort wide before being foiled by a good save from Solva keeper Hywel Churchill.

Marc Vaughan also went close for the Sports before the Green Army took the lead as Max Fulthorpe broke down the wing, and his angled shot swirled over away keeper David Pepper and into the net.

The home side then briefly took command and had chances to double the lead - before the Sports levelled when good work from Gary Delaney and Nicky Badland set up Williams, who this time made no mistake.

And the visitors then went 2-1 up before the break with a terrific goal, as Delaney rifled in a shot from 25 yards out.

Moments later, and the same player struck the post with another stinging drive.

Both sides had chances early in the second half with Vaughan going close for the Sports before Solva’s Matt Harries was denied by Pepper.

But just when the Green Army were pressing for an equaliser, the visitors broke and a cross from substitute Adam Lewis was headed into his own net by Solva’s Luke Harding.

With no subs left, the Sports were then reduced to 10 men when Steven James got injured, but despite late heavy pressure from the home side, Fishguard held firm.
