West Dragons 2-9 Hakin United

In this kind of clinical goal scoring mood the champions Hakin United sent out a message loud and clear to the rest of the chasing pack that they are not going to give up the title that easily this season.

The three-time consecutive champions, have incredibly got 14 league games to complete by the end of April, plus Gary Dawes’ Vikings are in the Senior Cup Final on Saturday week.

So to say they have a busy schedule ahead of them is an understatement, it’s a huge ask from the Vikings’ squad to win every game, but if any team in the league has the will power and determination to do it then Dawes’ troops will definitely give it their best shot, in their quest for silverware.

Second placed West Dragons were expected to push the Vikings all the way on Saturday, but it didn’t turn out that way at the Pavilion Ground, as the Vikings turned on the style to emphatically thrash Matthew Price’s out of sorts Dragons outfit, just two days after hammering Johnston 7-0 in the Senior Cup semi-final.

Ashley Bevan opened the scoring in the 12th minute, the midfielder received the ball from Woodrow inside the box and duly drilled his shot in the far corner. Eight minutes later and the Vikings added a second, Steve Mathias threading the ball through to Woodrow who nonchalantly finished from inside the box.

Two goals settled the Vikings and on the 30 minute mark James Stanmore lashed in a third, however the Dragons did get on the scoresheet as Daniel Bryce rose highest in the box to plant a firm header past James Manson as the score stood at 3-1 Hakin at half time.

Shortly after the interval and Craig Robertson, who has not played in the Vikings’ first team colours for a number of seasons, scored with a delightfully struck 20 yard free kick that flew into the bottom corner for goal number four.

Skipper Woodrow bagged two goals in quick succession to complete a superb hat-trick, Pembrokeshire and Dragons’ goalkeeper Peter Blain parried Ben Steele’s fierce free kick, and Woodrow gobbled up the rebound, then the deadly poacher drilled home from 12 yards.

The seventh goal saw Blain pull of two saves before Steele hammered home from close range. The Dragons’ defence had completely lost their shape when Stanmore slotted in the eighth, Bevan added his second goal of this one-side tussle for the ninth, benefitting from another wicked Robertson direct free kick that Blain failed to hold and Bevan pounced from six yards.

Bryce grabbed a late consolation goal for the Dragons, but on the day the Vikings were really too hot for Price’s deflated outfit to handle.

Angle  3-1 Neyland

Angle took full advantage to secure a thoroughly deserved victory against an under strength Neyland outfit at Windmill Lane.

This was Angle’s sixth win of the season which surely means that they are out of the relegation dogfight, they are tenth in table and eleven points clear of second from bottom Herbrandston.

The Nomads are fourth in the table, but they never really got going in this clash, the hosts grabbed goals through Simon Lewis, Chris Richards and Craig Brockway. The only consolation for the visitors was a goal scored by Andrew Smith.

Angle squad: James Reed, Stuart Ferrier, Scott Richards, Simon Lewis, Josh Clarke, Chris Richards, Tom Grimwood, Ben Adams, Jake Seaton, Connor Willis, Gareth Howells, Craig Brockway, Nick Willis, Gareth Richards.

The other Division One games involving Milford United v Neyland; Pennar Robins v Merlins Bridge; St Clears v Herbrandston and Tenby v Narberth were all postponed due to the heavy rain.
