HAVERFORDWEST will remain in this season's Harrison Allen Bowl competition following a meeting of the Pembroke County Cricket Club Executive tonight (Wednesday).

Last week, The Town beat Pembroke Dock by nine wickets to win through to the semi finals, but the result appeared to be in jeopardy after it emerged the 2014 winners fielded new signing Adeel Kahn, who has already played for Dafen CC in the South Wales Association League this season.

Back in April, all cricket clubs in Pembrokeshire were sent a reminder of player registration rules, including the following: “Any player, who has played in a league outside of Pembrokeshire, in the current season, will NOT be eligible to play in any cup competition played under the auspices of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, during that season, even if their club registration has been accepted by the County Executive.”

Under PCCC rules, any side found to have fielded an ineligible player in a cup competition must forfeit the tie and face a maximum fine more than £50.

However, tonight Steve Blowes, Honorary Secretary of the PCCC, said the e-mail should not have been sent out.

"It was a paper put together by the registration officer following the discussions of the Executive Committee the day before. It should have been brought back to the Executive at their next meeting for further discussion and approval.

"It is an amendment/addition to the current rule 6 on pages 65-67 of the handbook, and as such must go before the clubs and members at the AGM for ratification."

He went on to confirm that the result of the Haverfordwest v Pembroke Dock game would stand - and the contents of the e-mail are now withdrawn.

"The Executive apologise unequivocally for the confusion we realise this e-mail must have caused."

The decision is likely to change the outlook of PCCC cup competitions for the remainder of the season, with clubs now seemingly free to play players from other leagues providing they register them beforehand.
