A PEMBROKESHIRE Harrier athlete ran superbly and smashed an existing Welsh Schools record by seven seconds.
Lucy Davies, broke the Welsh Women's 1500m Steeplechase record at Cardiff Athletics Stadium earlier this month.
The 15-year-old clocked an incredible time of 5 minutes 5.47 seconds to smash previous record.
It’s a remarkable achievement when you consider that she was injured and had her leg in plaster back in March, missing eight weeks of training.
However, thanks to dedication and support from Pembrokeshire Harriers coach Pete Freeman, and a lot of hard work, Lucy was able to peak in time for the Welsh Schools Athletics Championships.
At the championships, she achieved a personal best, a championship best performance and the Welsh record.
The Welsh Schools Athletics Association presented Lucy with a gold medal and two achievement trophies. She was also thrilled to receive the JDB Williams Memorial Cup, for the girl achieving the best performance on the track, and she so also received the Colin Jackson Hurdles Cup, for best hurdles performance.
Lucy has been selected to represent Wales Schools at the forthcoming SIAB Schools International Track and Field Championships that will be held in Ashford, Kent this Sunday, against home nations England, Ireland and Scotland.
