Haverfordwest 19-34 Penybanc Panthers

Haverfordwest Ladies RFC opened their WRU Division One campaign with a 34-19 loss to Penybanc Panthers.

The visitors went two tries up in the first half, before Nina Colville powered over the line to pull one back for Haverfordwest.

Haverfordwest were dominant in the scrum and started the second half strongly, with Awen Prysor charging down a clearance kick and touching down for the try. Joanna Price added the conversion.

But the visitor's quick ball saw them score four more tries, before skipper Lyn Sergeant got a well deserved consolation, with Price once again converting.

Haverfordwest were pushing for a losing bonus point when Penybanc player Theresa Evans suffered a fractured collar bone which ended play on 85 minutes.

Haverfordwest coach Gareth Charles said: "I know we were on the wrong side of the result but a lessor team would have thrown the towel, instead we just got stronger.

"I thought every single player stood up today but I must mention

Emma Evans for stepping in and giving 100 percent, Awen and Nina."

After the game the Haverfordwest team travelled to Tenby to see their team mate Emily Banner become an Ironman.
