Olympian Jasmine Joyce has been named in the Wales Women's Squad for the 2017 Women's Six Nations.

The 21-year-old former Ysgol Dewi Sant pupil, who shot to prominence last year when she became the first Welsh rugby player to appear at an Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, was named moments ago in coach Rowland Phillips' 32-woman squad.

The Bristol Ladies RFC player came off the bench to score twice in one of Wales' Six nations warm up games against Spain, although Telegraph Sport understands this was not classified as a full capped international.

But Joyce, whose previous clubs include Haverfordwest Ladies and Pontyclun Falcons RFC, will now be widely tipped to win a first international cap in the 15-a-side code during the Six Nations tournament, with Wales opening their campaign away to Italy in Carotti on Saturday, February 4th.

Also named is Sioned Harries, Jodie Evans, and Nia Elen Davies, from Whitland Ladies RFC.

Phillips said that cutting down a training squad of approximately 50 players was a difficult task.

“It’s always tough when it comes to selections, because everybody has been working so hard over the past few months,” he said.

“There were plenty of tough calls, but I’m confident of the process we went through to get to this point.”
