IT was an historic night for former Pembrokeshire players Rob Evans and James Davies  - and the Scarlets as a whole, as the region turned in a magnificent performance to beat Munster 46-22 in the Guinness Pro12 final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday night.

Wayne Pivac's men produced a scintillating first half as tries from Liam Williams, Steff Evans, Gareth Davies and Tadhg Beirne, plus nine points from the boot of Rhys Patchell, put them 29-10 up and in total control at the break.

Munster, who went into the final as firm favourites after heading into the play offs as league winners, had a try, conversion, and penalty from Tyler Bleyendaal.

The Welsh side made the game safe after the break as Patchell added another penalty, before DTH van der Merwe crossed in superb fashion for a score that this time Williams converted.

Andrew Conway and Keith Earls did go over late on for the Munstermen, with the latter adding a conversion - but fittingly it was James 'cubby' Davies who had the final word for the Scarlets with a solo score from half way, and Williams rounded off a glorious night for Pivac's side with the extras.

Indeed, Davies turned in another eye catching individual display at open side flanker, which will only raise further questions of the seemingly baffling decision of Welsh caretaker coach Robin McBryde to not name the 26-year-old in his touring party this summer.

And loose head prop Evans, 25, turned in another rock solid display in the front row before being replaced before the hour mark - and like Davies, was able to celebrate a first major honour in regional colours.
