Torfaen report

The Alpha Kickboxing Club in Neyland enjoyed a great showing in Torfaen.

Last month, the club attended the Torfaen Open Competition, with Maddie Keane winning her first fight before finishing second overall.

Amanda Sniegula won her first fight and went on to take victory again to be first overall.

Luke Davies was in two categories and fought hard to pick up a third and second respectively.

Aeron Keane went on the mats and stopped his opponent in 10 seconds - then Andrew Perkins, with no preparation, stepped in and they had a two round battle and put on a great show of skill and sportsmanship as Aeron took first place.

Harvey Keane took on some tough opponents from Spartans Gym and fought well, taking first place.

Phil Mills and Tom Perry were in a category of what was described as ‘monster’ fighters.

Phil fought hard, showing determination and skill, taking third place with Tom taking second, as he moved around trying to take his shots wisely and conserving energy with his game plan.

Then Toria from Western Dragons walked onto the mats and took a convincing first in her points category, showing great skill.

Alpha Kickboxing Club coach Scott Keane said: “Huge congratulations to my fighters, they were true warriors and I’m so proud to have these guys train with us.

“They continue to impress me and make me proud.”

And Scott added he was proud of the progress of the club as a whole.

“Everyone said alpha would fail, said I haven’t got the stuff we need to train and coach people or fighters, well the proof has been in the pudding.

“Everyone at Alpha Kickboxing showing huge heart and support.”

Scott also thanked all the fighters, coaches, and supporters who travelled to Torfaen.

Rise of Dragons report

Following their display in Torfaen, it was a big night for the Alpha Club at Rise of the Dragons in Swansea, their first full contact show.

Harvey Keane won his bout after a brilliant battle, before Aeron Keane put on an equally impressive demo match where he and his opponents showed an abundance of skill, respect, and courage.

Phil Mills lost his bout against a very experienced fighter on points, but showed a lot of heart and landed some good blows during the narrow contest.

One of the biggest winners on the night was Tom Perry, who took a contest at the last minute, and then proceeded to dominate a great bout to take the win.

And finally, Alpha instructor Scott Keane took stepped in for a demo fight against a five time British and English champion, and more than played his part as the pair impressed the large crowd.

“I’d like to thank our sponsors, namely Link Taxis in Milford Haven and Tees R Us, for their continued help and support.

“Thankyou also to the Western Dragons team for putting on the show and for getting the Alpha team on the billing.”

Scott also praised Wayne Rogers for cornering the fighters, and helping him prepare them and warm them up.

“And most of all, well done to all the team. Everyone showed true sportsmanship and did me, themselves and all the supporters who came up proud.”
