Pembrokeshire athletes have been flying the flag for GB and Ireland in an elite triathlon event in Denmark.

The Challenge European Middle Distance Championships follows a half-Ironman distance and allows for professional and age group athletes to participate and race against each other.

Tenby Aces had five competitors selected to wear the shirts of their countries - Paul Slack, Vicky Jones, Richard Gardiner and Ian Vickery for Team GB and Anto O’Hara for Team Ireland.

Also competing for Team GB were Jon Phillips and Deb Phillips of Milford Haven, David Francis of Team NBCC, while David Hawkins of Clynderwen and Tenby Aces member Julie Slack entered independently.

All participants followed the same course in and around Herning in Denmark. The 1.2 mile swim took place in the clear waters of Lake Fuglsang, followed by the 56-mile fast and flat cycling course through mid-Jutland.

The event was completed with the half-marathon around the Herning city centre, where music and cheering crowds encouraged the athletes on their way.

The finish line was located in the square in the centre of Herning, where celebrations continued late into the night.
