DR Morris Cup semi-finals:

Whitland (183 for 7) beat Neyland (182 for 7) by 1 run

Neyland’s four year winning reign in the DR Morris cup is over after losing a thrilling contest with Whitland in Cresselly tonight.

Iestyn Scourfield’s side posted 183 for 7 in their 20 overs, as Geraint Jones top scored with 66, and Will Spreadbury chipped in with 32.

For Neyland, Henry Durrant took 2 for 22 and Patrick Bellerby 2 for 36.

The holders were up with the required run rate for much of their reply, as Gregg Miller top scored with 66, with further good contributions from Scott Jones (22), Ashley Sutton (21), and Bellerby (22).

But tight bowling from Jonathan Thomas (2 for 13), and a wicket each for Scott Newton, Matthew Davies, and Wayne Howells, took things to the wire with Neyland needing three off the final ball to win it.

They managed one but Stephen Murray was run out pushing for the second that would have tied matters, and it was The Borderers who were able to celebrate a dramatic win.

Carew (104 for 7) lost to Haverfordwest (105 for 3)

Haverfordwest will contest a first final since 2014 after comfortably beating Carew at the Neyland Athletic Ground.

The Town bowled and fielded superbly to restrict the Division One leaders to just 104 in their 20 overs, as only Rhys (34) and Tom Davies (12) managed double figures, with Adam James (2 for 14) and Kieran O’Connor (2 for 23) helping keep Danny Potter’s men on top.

And Haverfordwest then eased past the total in 13 overs, with Simon Holliday hitting 35 and Ben Field 48.

The DR Morris Cup final, between Whitland and Haverfordwest, will take place at Oafield Park, Burton, on Sunday, July 16th – with stumps pitched at 12pm.
