Pembroke County Cricket Club fixtures for Saturday, July 8:
Division 1 (1.30pm):
Carew v Pembroke
Carew's solid all round displays see them continue to set the pace in Division 1, and in truth, I don't envisage them slipping up against a Pembroke side for who time is quickly running out.
The Rooks are spreading out the runs and wickets between them at the moment, and to their credit have shown few weaknesses thus far. For Pembroke, Barry Evans has been in the wickets of late, but to have any chance, they desperately need someone to step up with the bat as well.
Cresselly v St Ishmaels
Second placed Cresselly lie 18 points off their near rivals, but will be made to work hard if they are to keep up the pressure tomorrow.
Tish have found a new found resilience in recent weeks, and their spin duo of Andrew Pawlett and Danny Flynn continue to cause teams real problems.
Their top and middle order has also been solid, but if they bat first tomorrow they will need to go big.
Last week against Haverfordwest showed just how ruthless Cresselly can be when chasing a total, and they have now won four on the bounce, all from batting second.
With Iwan Izzard in form and the likes of Phil Williams, Adam Chandler, and Simon Cole all capable of going big, I fancy they'll want to chase again tomorrow.
Johnston v Kilgetty
You feel this is a pivotal day for Johnston if they are to end up outside the bottom two.
Lee Summons' side have won just once this season, and positive results in home games against sides around them are now a must.
Again they will rely on the skipper himself and Dan Sutton to set them up with the bat, but Kilgetty themselves will sense a big chance tomorrow.
They are 48 points ahead of Johnston and the bottom two, and know a win tomorrow will all but secure safety, even with six games to go.
And if their talented crop of youngsters like the Marsh boys, Kurtis and Kyle, and Jack Tucker, who made 45 not out against Neyland last week - all perform well they are very capable of coming out on top.
Lawrenny v Neyland
You sense Neyland's season now comes down to Tuesday, and their Harrison Allen Bowl semi final with Whitland.
But they still need to find consistency and form, and skipper Sean Hannon will no doubt want to see more of his top order back up the in-form Patrick Bellerby.
Lawrenny meanwhile, are only 20 points above safety, and desperately need a result.
We have yet to see the best of one of their key men, Brad McDermott-Jenkins, with the bat this summer. Tomorrow would be a good time to return to form.
Whitland v Haverfordwest
The Town's title chances, now lying fourth and 63 points adrift of Carew, hang by a thread.
Like Neyland, you sense the cup competitions will define their season from here, with a DR Morris final to come, and a Harrison Allen Bowl final four clash with Cresselly on Thursday.
In fact, it is tomorrow's visitors and the DR Morris final opponents in Whitland who now sit in third, and should they prevail at The Racecourse, will not be ruling out a late tilt at the title.
This season, Whitland have turned from an inconsistent Saturday side to a real force, with a deep batting line-up and varied bowling attack.
Iestyn Scourfield, Wayne Howells, and Greg Sleep pretty much blew away Pembroke with the ball between them last week, although it will be far more difficult tomorrow, especially with Simon Holliday and co overdue a big score that the home side's top order is more than capable of producing.
