FORMER Sir Thomas Picton pupil David Omoregie will compete for Great Britain in the IAAF World Championships after the British Athletics team squad was announced moments ago.

The 21-year-old will join Andrew Pozzi and David King in the 110 metre hurdles in London.

Omoregie finished fifth in the final of his event at the British trials in Birmingham this month in 13.93 seconds, meaning he was outside of the automatic qualifying time needed and would have to rely on a discretionary GB team place.

But he will now join the 78-strong team for his first ever senior World Championship appearance.

Last year Omoregie, who represented the Pembrokeshire Harriers throughout his junior career and now bases his training in Cardiff, narrowly missed out on 2016 Rio Olympics selection after running the qualification standards too late.

The IAAF World Championships begin at the London Stadium (formerly Olympic Stadium) in Stratford on Friday, August 4, and run until Sunday, August 12.
