Pre-season football:
Goodwick United 1
Llanelli Town 3

PHOENIX Park played host to a tasty pre-season clash on Saturday as Goodwick United hosted Welsh League Division One side Llanelli Town.

The visitors arrived with a star attraction in their ranks, former Swansea City striker and Division Two top scorer last season, Lee Trundle.

And it was Trundle who helped give his side the lead 25 minutes in, when he showed some neat control in the Goodwick area before playing a ball across the six yard box and into the path of Luke Jones, who bundled home past Casey Walters.

But it was Walters who then took centre stage, after Trundle had been brought down in the area by Llyr Tobin and referee Tom Bevan pointed to the spot.

The striker himself took the spot kick, but Walters dived brilliantly to his right to keep it out.

The second half began in a similar vein with The Reds doing most of the attacking against an organised Goodwick defence, but the away side doubled their lead when Trundle’s deflected effort  wrong footed Walters to make it 2-0.

Then with 25 minutes left, and The Phoenix Boys having committed me forward trying to get back into it, Wayne O’Sullivan’s side were hit on the counter and Jordan Davies made no mistake as he met a left wing cross, planting his header into the net for the third.

But the home side kept going, and they eventually got the goal their play deserved when Chris O’Sullivan’s scorner found its way through to Rhys Dalling, and he volleyed his effort past Craig Morris in the Llanelli goal.

And moments later, Dalling was inches away from setting up an exciting finale when his cracking 25 yard effort beat Morris but cannoned back off the crossbar.

It proved the last real chance as referee Tom Bevan, who had a good game in the middle, brought the clash to a close.

“It was an excellent workout for both teams,” said Goodwick’s Brian Morris afterwards.

“Very competitive but played in a good spirit. A big thankyou to the large number of supporters who turned up, and also to Llanelli for travelling and we wish them all the best for the forthcoming season.”

The Phoenix Boys continue their pre-season preparations this Saturday when they travel to play Trostre AFC.
