Pembroke County Cricket Club previews and fixtures for Saturday, August 12:
Division 1 (1.30pm):
Carew v Kilgetty
A losing draw in Neyland was not the result The Rooks were looking for last week - but with Rhys Davids defiant with the bat, avoiding outright defeat may yet prove crucial in their quest for the title. The losing draw left them 26 points clear of Cresselly, and they will be favourites to win tomorrow against a Kilgetty side that has struggled against the top sides in the Division this summer.
Indeed, today's visitors are yet to beat any of the top five, but they to need a result for different reasons, as they lie just 22 points clear of the drop zone after five straight defeats.
Cresselly v Johnston
Keeping a keen eye on the above result will be these two, with Cresselly chasing Carew and Johnston looking to reign in Kilgetty.
Cresselly bounced back from their Bowl defeat with a comprehensive win at Whitland last week, and Neilson Cole and co know nothing less than victory will do here.
They play a Johnston side who can go from one extreme to the other. They could easily be steam rolled, and at the same time, if their top order gets going then the likes of Dan Sutton and Leigh Summons will give them a chance.
Haverfordwest v Pembroke
The Town's intensity has dropped since their defeat in the Alec Colley final, hammered by Carew the week after and stumbling somewhat last week despite only chasing 62 to beat Kilgetty.
You suspect Potter and co have an eye on next season already with a number of youngsters currently featuring, and on paper, they should still have too much for a Pembroke side without a win to their name this season.
Indeed, tomorrow will all but certainly confirm their relegation, and you sense they will welcome the end of the season and a chance to re-group.
Lawrenny v Whitland
A Joe Kidney inspired Lawrenny won at Johnston last week, ending any fears of dropping into the bottom two.
In that sense it is job done, but they will want to finish with a bit of momentum against a Whitland side still pushing for a top three finish.
Iestyn Scourfield's side were disappointing in being blown away by Cresselly last week, and they won't want to finish a good season by stumbling to the finish.
St Ishmaels v Neyland
Rather than put their feet up, Neyland seemed buoyed by their Bowl win last week as they got the better of leaders Carew.
Nathan Banner's brutal knock of 95 not out was a reminder of his destructive talent, and I don't expect Sean Hannon's men to drop their intensity tomorrow, with the captain having already spoken of his intention to finish strongly.
Tish won easily at Pembroke last Saturday, and their batting line up will again look to build around skipper Peter Bradshaw as they push for a top half finish.
