SHE famously crossed twice at the Rio Olympics – and now former Ysgol Dewi Sant pupil Jasmine Joyce has a Rugby World Cup try to her name after scoring in Wales Women’s 39-15 win against Hong Kong at the UCD Bowl.

With Rowland Phillips’ side leading 12-10 minutes before the break, Joyce latched onto a cross field kick from outside half Elinor Snowsill, and the Bristol winger showed great skill to juggle the bouncing ball before gathering as she dived over in the corner for a try.

It was her first for her country in the 15-a-side code in a full international, and the delight on the face of the 21-year-old was obvious after the video referee confirmed the score.

After being given a stern test by the underdogs, Wales eventually cut loose in the final quarter, and joining Joyce on the scoresheet was Whitland’s Sioned Harries.

Harries packed down at openside flanker, with Whitland teammate and Pembrokeshire College student Lleucu George, who at just 17 became the youngest ever player to start for Wales in a World Cup match, playing blindside.

And Harries again impressed as she powered over for two tries late on, adding to her score against the All Blacks in Wales’ first game.

George meanwhile, worked tirelessly in her 48 minutes on the field before being replaced by Rachel Taylor. Other Welsh scores came from No 8 Shona Powell-Hughes, winger Jess Kavanagh-Williams (2), and skipper and hooker Carys Phillips.

Full back Jodie Evans added a conversion.

The Welsh squad will now relocate from Dublin to Belfast, and will now go into the play offs for the 5th-8th placed spots, with their next opponents to be confirmed.
