Swansea City 0 –4 Manchester United

Manchester United grabbed three late goals to secure an impressive four-nil rout over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

A goal just before half time by Eric Bailly, his first in the Premier League, and late strikes by Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba, and Anthony Martial added the gloss to United’s impressive performance.

Jose Mourhino has never lost against The Swans, and his magnificent Red Devils outfit kept that impressive winning streak intact.

It was also a first for Lukaku, the striker finding the back of the net for the first time in the Premier League against the Swans.

Paul Clement’s Swans badly capitulated at the end, after playing so well for 80 minutes, but United spotted a chink in their armour and like any class team, they went for the jugular and finished the clash in spectacular fashion.

Swans were unlucky not to take an early lead, Bailly’s attempted clearance was charged down by Jordan Ayew, and the winger broke clear and shot from a tight angle which struck the crossbar, completely catching United keeper David De Gea out.

The Red Devils counter attacked and ended with deadly striker Lukaku firing a shot well wide at the second attempt.

United should have scored in the tenth minute, Mkhitaryan’s well delivered free-kick in the box, was met with a firm Phil Jones header which crashed against the bar.

Paul Clement’s Swansea outfit played with five at the back and also filled the midfield, allowing United to dominate territory and dictate possession.

Olsson’s spectacular bicycle kick flew straight into the safe hands of De Gea, Swans serving notice that this wasn’t going to be all one way traffic for Mourinho’s Red Devils.

Paul Pogba was issued the first yellow of the afternoon in the 25th minute, the midfielder going in strongly from behind on opposite number Tom Carroll.

Minutes later and Pogba could have quite easy seen red, needlessly clattering Ollson, but the midfielder luckily escaped a second yellow from referee Jon Moss.

In the 36th minute, Blind’s long ball found the head of Alfie Mawson, and it fell kindly for Marcus Rashford, the striker ran clear but toe poked straight at Fabianski from inside the box, a poor finish from the young England international.

Four minutes before the break and Fabianski spilled a cross under pressure from Lukaku, the ball fell in the box for Mata who struck a hooked shot wide.

On the stroke of half time and the Red Devils broke the deadlock, a corner by Blind was met by an unmarked Pogba, and after Fabianski superbly tipped his header onto the bar, Bailly stabbed home on the goal line.

Mourinho’s Red Devils dominated at the start of the second half, as the Swans kept everyone behind the ball, dangerously inviting the visitors to push forward.

A direct move from the back that involved Matic and Mata put the Red Devils on the ascendancy and Rashford struck a low right footed shot from the edge of the box, straight at Fabianski.

The Swans broke on the counter with striker Tammy Abraham’s header fell for Leroy Fer outside the box, the midfielder blasted his effort high and wide.

On the hour mark, Abraham headed over the bar from a Carroll cross from the left.

In the 66th minute the Swans made a double substitution, Luciano Narsingh came on for Bartley, and Wayne Routledge replaced new boy Roque Mesa.

Leroy Fer was issued a yellow card for lunge on Blind, while the left back fired over the crossbar. Pogba also curled the resulting free kick way over.

In the 74th minute and United also made a double substitution, Marouane Fellaini replaced Mata in midfield and Anthony Martial came on for Rashford up front.

United then scored three goals in the space of four minutes, Lukaku pounced for his first goal against the Swans in the Premier League, Mkhitaryan threaded a through ball to the striker who buried from close range.

A minute later and Mkhitaryn assisted again for Pogba to lift the ball over the advancing Fabianski.

Matters got worse for The Swans when the rampant Red Devils broke again, Pogba assisted for Martial, the substitute curled a low right footed effort into the far corner to seal an emphatic win for Mourinho’s impressive outfit.

Before kick-off, everyone at the Liberty Stadium observed a minute’s applause for former Swansea City honorary President Gwilym Joseph, who died last week.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourhino said afterwards: “We’re are a team that is playing with plenty of confidence. We led 1-0 at half time against West Ham last week, and today was the same, and on both occasions we finished strongly and scored goals.”

Speaking on whether Pogba should have been issued a second yellow card in the first half: “I don’t think his first tackle warranted a yellow, and the second tackle I was confident that Jonathan (referee) wasn’t going to caution him.”

Talking about the strength of his squad: “The players who are not picked are showing a great attitude, and when they are given the opportunity they are making an excellent contribution to the group.”

Swansea City boss Paul Clement said: “We competed strongly for long periods, I’m disappointed we conceded from a set piece. The second goal killed us, and they scored two more from counter attacks.

“I didn’t think Pogba should have been sent off. If that was one of my players and he was given his marching orders I would have felt very aggrieved. The referee made the right decision and kept him on the pitch.

“The first goal at this level is so important, they got their goal and in the end they really punished us.”
