West Wales Intermediate Cup Round One:

St Clears 0-7 Goodwick United

2016 winners Goodwick United had few problems getting through a potentially tricky tie at St Clears.

Wayne O’Sullivan’s side led 6-0 at half time, and added one more thereafter for a comprehensive cup win.

The Phoenix Boys led eight minutes in when a Jonny Horgan corner prompted a goalmouth scramble, and the ball was cleared as far as Iestyn Evans, who hammered home a left foot shot from the edge of the area.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0, when a Chris O’Sullivan free kick was headed home by the in-form Jordan Griffiths.

The same player struck again six minutes later when he was taken down in the area by Martin Thomas, and got back to his feet to put away the penalty.

And within half an hour, the tie was effectively over when a long ball over the top from O’Sullivan found Kieran O’Brien, who tapped home from close range.

Griffiths completed a first half hat trick when he headed home from a Horgan corner – and the latter then made it 6-0 five minutes before the break, latching onto O’Brien’s diagonal ball and making no mistake from close range after his first attempt had deflected back into path.

The opening stages of the second half were quiet as the visitors took their foot off the gas somewhat, but on 67 minutes, they had a seventh goal when the ball was worked wide to Horgan, and he squared a pass for O’Brien to sidefoot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
