Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Paul Harries hosted an informal reception at County Hall recently to celebrate the achievements of local athletes who shone in the Special Olympics held in Sheffield in August.

Six Gymnasts and a Boccia Player attended the reception together with their coaches and Pembrokeshire County Council Disability Sports Officer Angela Miles.

They had all represented Wales in the event that attracted around 2,600 athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the UK.

Between them the athletes picked up seven Gold, eight Silver and ten Bronze medals. Dewi Evans (boccia), Adele Bevan, Jake Morgan, Leon Davies, Joshua Critten, Lydia James, and Gemma Bowie-Hallum (gymnastics) were congratulated by Cllr Harries.

“To come away with a haul of medals from such a big event is a great achievement for the athletes,” said Cllr Harries.

“Their success is a testament to their dedication and that of their coaches and the staff here at Pembrokeshire County Council and I congratulate them all,” he added.
