WRU National League and Cup fixtures involving Pembrokshire sides for Saturday, December 9th:

Championship (2.30pm):

Narberth v Cardiff Met

The Otters were well beaten at Cardiff Met on the second weekend of the season - but there have been few high points for the students since then as they lie just a point above the bottom two, with six defeats in 10 league games.

Narberth were beaten 15-13 at Newbridge in their last game, over a month ago now, but still lie second in the table and appear a good bet to stay there being runaway leaders Pontypool.

Jack Price comes in on permit to boost the home side in midfield, and with skipper Alex Jenkins missing, Rich Rees skippers the side from No 8.

On paper, Sean Gale's men will be favourites to avenge that September defeat.

Narberth: Ianto Griffiths, Liam Hutchings, Jack Price, Paul Davies, Kieran Jones, Jonathan Rogers, Rhys Lane, Bradley Davies, Dan Smith, Tom Slater, Jake Simm, Ryan Banner, Tom Powell, Sean Jenkins, Rich Rees (Capt).

Replacements: Rhys Davies, Rhodri Owens, Dewi Williams, Nick Gale, Jack Parkinson.

Division One West (2.30pm):

Tycroes v Tenby United

Tenby's 13-6 win over Gorseinon last time out was a welcome relief after a difficult spell, but The Seasiders still have work to do as they lie six points above he drop zone - with Tycroes one of those below them.

They appear to have lost outside half Ashley Sutton to Newcastle Emlyn, but No 8 Pat Roberts has returned from Narberth, and I expect he will slot straight back in tomorrow.

Like their last game, Tenby will have to dig deep and come through a real fight - as Tycroes, who gave themselves a lift with a 14-12 home victory over Penclawdd in their last league game, will be targeting this.

Division Two West (2.30pm):

Amman United v St Clears

This is huge for St Clears - they are fourth bottom and 11 points ahead of Amman immediately below them. A first away win of the season here will make it extremely difficult for their opponents to catch them.

Lose, and Mike Jones' men are suddenly looking over their shoulders.

Amman have won just once all season against bottom club Llanybydder, and were well beaten (36-13) at home to Fishguard last month.

The Saints have not travelled well but they have to go at full strength and with a real belief tomorrow. If they do, then come tomorrow evening their bid to stay up just one season after promotion will look in a very healthy position.

Division Three West A (2.30pm):

Haverfordwest v Milford Haven

The game of the day in Division Three takes place at Merlins Bridge - and it's a grudge match with a lot resting on it.

Tensions between Haverfordwest and Milford have risen since they were paired back in this league together two seasons ago - and in both games it was The Blues who prevailed en route to promotion.

But the home side are under pressure tomorrow, with their draw at Neyland last time out leaving them third in the table, 11 points off Milford, and their title hopes hanging by a thread.

I expect them to have their strongest side available tomorrow, and they will need to address issues with their scrum after struggling in that department at The Athletic Club.

The Mariners meanwhile, are unbeaten in their eight league matches, and hammered St Davids 77-5 last time out.

But I was surprised they chose to concede their Pembrokeshire Cup match with Tenby last Saturday - 80 minutes under their belts would have given them a competitive edge given both teams have not played for a month.

They too will feel pressure having gone a long time since beating Haverfordwest - and while I have no doubt it will be ferocious and physical up front, I hope we have some open rugby as well as both sides boast pace and fnishing ability in their backlines.

Regardless, this one will be close.

Pembroke Dock Quins v Llangwm (doubles up as a Pembrokeshire KO Cup tie)

Two more teams who have had to wait a while - with Llangwm last playing on November 11th and The Quins on November 4th.

In that outing, Ossie Boswell's side really pushed Milford Haven at The Obs before eventually losing 38-22, and he will want his much improved side to pick up where they left off here.

The Wasps were hammered by Aberaeron (80-0) and then Pembroke (85-12) before the international break - but they must now treat things as a fresh start with Colin Picton and Robbie Neill recently taking over the coaching.

A change of approach and personnel can rejuvenate a side, but it won't happen overnight, and will be tough for The Wasps at Bierspool.

Five points for The Quins will move them fifth in the table, and see them into the semi-finals of the Pembs KO Cup, and they will start favourites to achieve both.

National Plate Round Three:

Crymych v Tondu

Being bottom of the table, you could argue Crymch's priorities should lie with staying up, not a cup run.

But this is a big chance for the Preseli Men to both pick up some winning momentum, and move into the last 16 of the Plate - and within three games of a Principality Stadium appearance.

And they will have a good chance to do it at home to a Tondu side fifth in Division One West Central, with five wins and three defeats in their eight league games so far.

If the home pack can get parity, then they have the talent behind with the likes of youngsters Ifan Phillips and Jake Jenkins, to really hurt the visitors.

Whitland v Nant Conwy (2pm)

Home advanatge may be pivotal for The Borderers here, with Nant Conwy forced to make the unenviable trip from North Wales.

How much that impact them remains to be seen, but the home side will surely sense a chance to progress to the last 16 here.

But perhaps with one eye on their promotion battle, they have opted to give some talented youth players a chance, with Miciah Jones, Jack Richards, and Gino Setaro all coming into the squad.

Aaron Ebsworth and Scott Candler have also been brought in on the wings, so there will be many Whitland players with plenty to prove tomorrow.

Yet they still have ample experience with skipper Marc Jones, No 10 Nico Setaro, second row Raff Williams and No 8 Jack Mason all starting - and with little to lose, I expect Whitland to come out all guns blazing to try and catch the visitors cold.

If they manage that, a place round four awaits.

Whitland: Scott Newton, Aaron Ebsworth, Jonathan Thomas, Josh Thomas, Scott Candler, Nico Setaro, Adam Davies, Tomos Evans, Marc Jones, Michael Ryan, Miciah Jones, Raff Williams, Ben Kirk, Jack Richards, Jack Mason.

Replacements: Aaron Mayne, Geraint Lewis, Danny Evans, Dai Ebsworth, Gino Setaro, Tom Parry.

National Bowl Round Four:

Laugharne v Pembroke (2pm)

Laugharne were ruthless in outting 100 points on St Davids on November th, but the problem is they have not played since.

Indeed, their season has been stop start with only five league games played, and through no fault of their own, they have had three walkover wins en route to round four of the Bowl.

But despite inevitable ring-rust, they are a great attacking side when in full flow, with Owain Thomas at 10 leading an innovative back line with pace out wide.

Their No 8 Mikey Williams has been in prolific try scoring form - and his battle with opposite number Sam Smith should be worth a watch.

Frustratingly for Pembroke, they had to postpone their Pembs KO Cup tie with Fishguard last week with their pitch under water, but they go in on the back of nine wins from 10 league and cup games.

They too possess good backs, but will look to the likes of Smith to make inroads up front and The Cocklemen will need to counter the Pembroke pack power to have a chance.

Regardless, it is a great chance for both sides to make the last 16 of this wide open competition.
