Division 1:
Hakin United 0-0 West Dragons

The Vikings made a big effort to get their league clash with West Dragons to go ahead at The Obs on Saturday - but it arguably backfired as they lost vital ground in the title race.

The visitors arrived as the only side to have beaten Hakin in any competition this season, and can now lay claim to the only side to have shut them out as the game finished goalless.

On a saturated pitch, it was a frustrating day for Kristan Bennett’s men, who missed chances in both halves and found away goalkeeper Liam Eaton in solid form.

And to the credit of Chris Edwards’ side, they were resolute and organised - and could have won it 10 minutes from time when striker Scott Crawford saw his rising shot cannon back off the bar.

Few can blame Hakin for pushing for the match to go ahead given they have now only managed eight league games in this campaign, but despite having three games in hand, now lie 12 points away from leaders Goodwick United.

The Dragons meanwhile, move up above Pennar, who were beaten 2-1 by Lamphey, into 10th place.

Afterwards, Bennett said: “We had lots of pressure but most of our shots were straight at the keeper.

“We had two penalty shouts as well, but then they could have nicked it late on when they hit the bar.”
