Lifelong Fishguard Sports Football Club administrator John Evans has died at the age of 80 after losing his brave battle with pancreatic cancer on New Year’s Day in hospital.

John, has incredibly been associated with The Sports for nigh-on 60 years, serving at least 40 years as secretary and the rest as chairman.

The Sports were formed in 1947 where John’s late father Bill was one of the club’s founder members.

The club fittingly honoured John with club life membership back in June 2017 - repaying him for his remarkable dedication, loyalty and service.

John also officially opened Fishguard Sports’ new ground at Tregroes when they moved from St Mary’s back in September 2015.

Sports secretary Owen Duggan, a close friend of John said: “I’m devastated. I spoke to John on a weekly basis to speak about club matters and even team selection, we were big mates.

“When I became secretary in 2003 he was always on the end of the phone to guide and give me sound advice.

“He’ll be sorely missed by everyone in Pembrokeshire football circles and all connected with our club. Sadly another legend gone.”

The funeral will take place on Friday, January 12th at Tabernacle Chapel, Fishguard, at 1pm.
