WRU Women's Division One:

Senghenydd Sirens 21-26 Haverfordwest Ladies

A LAST minute try earned Haverfordwest Ladies a bonus point win over Senghenydd Sirens on Sunday.

The sides had not long played each other, with Haverfordwest narrowly losing 21-19 on December 3rd.

But a new league structure saw them paired again due to both finishing in the top half of the division one table.

Injured captain Joanna Price managed the team in the absence of coaches Gareth Charles and Chris Beggan, and saw her side start well with flanker Emily Carrington charging down a clearance kick and scoring an unconverted try.

Senghenydd responded with two penalty kicks to make it 6-5 at the break.

Haverfordwest’s new centre combination featured returning veteran Nina Colville and Lisa Neumann, currently involved in the Wales set up.

It resulted in two outstanding individual tries by Neumann, both converted by outside half Holly Couzens.

To their credit Senghenydd fought their way back into the game with powerful running from their forwards, who scored three unconverted tries to lead the game 21-19 with just minutes to go.

Rallied by Price, a series of pick and drives by the Haverfordwest forwards saw Chloe Smith crash over in the dying minutes, with Couzens converting despite suffering with cramp.

Speaking after the game, Price said: “Our defensive units were great and we scored some really good tries.

“We had some excellent performances, but the way we managed to pull it back at the end was credit to the character of the whole team on the pitch”.

Haverfordwest squad: Natasha Thomas, Maria Phillips, Louisa Weinfeld, Lucy French, Ceri Coleman-Phillips, Emily Carrington, Awen Prysor, Delyth Foster, Helen Finnan, Chloe Smith, Holly Couzens, Nina Colville, Lisa Neumann, Samantha Lewtas, Elin Hopkins.
