It has been a long time coming – but James ‘Cubby’ Davies finally has a place in Warren Gatland’s Welsh squad ahead of the upcoming Six Nations.

The 27-year-old flanker has again been a standout performer for the Scarlets this season – with the likes of Martyn Williams publicly backing him for an international call up.

He was dubiously overlooked in the summer as a weakened Wales played touring games against Tonga and Samoa, but after another superb display for his region in their terrific European Champions Cup win in Bath last Friday, he has been rewarded and will now look to add a 15-a-side cap to his numerous appearances for the Wales 7s side on the IRB circuit.

Also included again is former Haverfordwest prop Rob Evans.

His place in the squad was in little doubt, with the ex-Sir Thomas Picton pupil now a cemented regular in Warren Gatland’s side.

The 25-year-old now has 20 caps to his name, and was in outstanding form during the recent Autumn Internationals after recovering from a concussion sustained early in the season.

Alun Wyn Jones will captain the squad, with Worcester winger Josh Adams the only other uncapped player.

Wales begin their Six Nations campaign at home to Scotland on Saturday, February 3rd. The 26-year-old's one and only cap so far came against New Zealand in November, where he was forced off with injury.
