South Wales Women’s Hockey League Division 2:
Penarth 3rds 3
Milford Haven 0

THE first game back after the Christmas break didn’t go to plan for Milford Haven as they travelled to Penarth with a number of players unavailable with illness.

And sure enough, the visitors lost top spot in the league as they suffered their second defeat of the season, going down 3-0 against a well organised home team.

Although the visitors created several first half chances they failed to capitalise and found themselves 1-0 down at half time.

A late first half flurry from the hosts saw them take the lead as Milford failed to clear their lines and a Penarth forward reacted quickest to a loose ball in the D.

The home side were dominant in the second half and went 2-0 up early on through a short corner.

With Milford rarely threatening the opposition D the pressure mounted and despite some good saves by young keeper Emilie Zatac, the home side finished a one on one as Milford were caught out of position as they pressed people forward.

It was a hard day for the visitors, although one positive was the display of their player of the match Meg Evans.

Milford will look to bounce back at home to Radnor this Saturday, January 20, 2.30pm pushback.

Milford Haven squad: Emma Summons (capt), Emilie Zatac, Vicki John, Kate Farr, Meg Evans, Charlotte Davies, Kacey Arran, Cerys Jones, Jemma Phillips, Anya Ackerman, Aaliyah Coaker, Kaitlyn Carlson.
