WRU Women's Super Cup first round:

Haverfordwest Ladies 0-65 Swansea Women

THERE were no less than 10 of Wales Women’s Six Nations squad members on show at Pembroke Road on Sunday as Haverfordwest Ladies hosted Swansea Women in the first round of the Super Cup.

Billed as one of the biggest games in Haverfordwest Ladies’ short history, there was no lack of commitment from the home side, who battled hard against the recently crowned Premiership champions.

The Blues, currently playing in the top tier of division one, enjoyed some decent possession in the first half and competed well in the scrum, but the Whites were clinical on the break and scored tries through Lowri Norkett, Kerin Lake, Robyn Lock, Alecs Donovan and Adi Tavener.

Beth Preece was successful with two conversions to make it 29-0 at the break.

Flanker Lock completed her hat-trick in the second half with two more tries, with centre Donovan also getting her second of the game.

Swansea took advantage of fatigued legs in the final ten minutes to score further tries through Keira Bevan, Siwan Lillicrap and Amy Evans, with Preece adding three conversions.

Haverfordwest now drop to the plate competition and have two final games against Abergele before wrapping up their 2017-18 campaign.

Injured captain and coach Joanna Price said: “It’s hard to play in a game when they’re running in the tries, but we showed great character and supported each other throughout.

“It’s a great learning curve for us.”
