Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 2:

Saundersfoot Sports 1-2 Hakin United 2nds

There was a tense finale at the King George V Playing Fields tonight as Hakin United 2nds beat Saundersfoot to claim the Division Two title.

The Vikings went into their final game with an 11 point lead over the hosts, but having played four more games.

And the visitors got a great start as a Camron Thomas cross was diverted his own net by the unlucky Euan Laidlaw - under pressure from Gareth Fawcett.

And shortly before the break Hakin doubled their lead in style, as Adam Collins cleared a corner upfield and it fell to Thomas, who linked with Fawcett before the forward's long diagonal ball put Shane Walsh through on goal - and he rounded home keeper Sam Franklin to make it 2-0.

But in the second half The Sports responded, and Hakin were forced to defend doggedly under mounting pressure.

And then with eight minutes left Curtis Hurlow set up a grandstand finish when his near post header flew past Hakin keeper James Manson.

Inevitably the home side then poured forward in a frantic finale, but The Vikings held firm.

"At the start of the season I said this group was capable of something special this season and I'm glad they backed me up," said manager Scott Davies, part of a strong coaching group with assistant Anthony Mayhew and player-coach Leigh Broome.

"We only lost once and scored in every league game, and it's a nice feeling to have won the title."

But for Saundersfoot the season is far from over. The Vikings can obviously not be promoted to Division One, and just one win for The Sports from their last four games, starting with Fishguard on Thursday, will secure them a top three finish and a return to the top flight.
