Pembroke County Club Division Two reports:

Haverfordwest 2nds (99 for 2) beat Whitland 2nds (98 all out) by 8 wickets

An inspired performance by skipper Nigel Morgan helped Haverfordwest 2nds gain a vital victory over their counterparts from Whitland as he claimed four wickets before tea and then afterwards scored an undefeated half century as his side successfully chased down their target with overs and wickets aplenty to spare.

Whitland looked likely to reach a decent target as Dai Lee (46) and Paul Oeppen (17) took them to 42 before Oeppen departed from there on no-one else could muster double figures as Morgan and veteran off-spinner Clive Tucker claimed identical figures of 4 for 19 in their 12-over stints.

Also looking very impressive for The Town was 13 year old pace bowler Evan Watts, with splendid figures of 2 for 12 in six overs – definitely one to watch for in the future!

Then Morgan opened the batting with Sean Williams (23) and 17 runs from Nigel Delaney made sure that Morgan’s men were home and dry to record their first win – whilst Whitland have yet to experience the feat as they remain without a success so far!

Carew (266 for 7) beat Hook (132 all out) by 134 runs

Carew continued to march through their season in the second division as they beat fellow promotion aspirants Hook by a huge margin of 134 runs as Tim Hicks maintained his batting form.

Hicks’ century included 17 boundaries before he was stumped by William Goronwy on 118 off the bowling of Bradley Flood, with support from Nick Scourfield (38), Ian Sefton (18), Rhys Davies (43), Gareth Lewis (10) and Tom Scourfield (12 not out) – whilst the successful Hook bowlers were Flood (2 for 48), Aled Phelps (1 for 39) and his dad Jamie (1 for 21).

Jake Wicks topped the Hook batting with a well-constructed 42 and had support from Callum James (24), Phelps senior (22) and Dai Hopkins (22 not out) but James Hinchliffe (5 for 27) and Shaun Whitfield (4 for 26) led the Carew attack so well that Hook could only muster a total of 132 all out in reply.

Umpires: Trefor Evans and Steve Blowes.

Scorers: Julie Davies & Phil Griffiths.

Cresselly 2nds (181 for 1) beat Pembroke (182 for 6) by 9 wickets

Cresselly Seconds showed what a powerful squad they can muster as they limited Pembroke to 182 for 6 and then strolled home for the loss of a single wicket with overs aplenty to spare.

The match was delayed slightly by rain and so was reduced to 40 overs a side, with Pembroke batting first and reaching their total thanks in the main to the excellent batting of the Hay brothers, with Phil top-scoring on 71 and Andrew looking like something back to his best form with 54 as Barry Evans also chipped in with 12 against the Cresselly bowling of Tom Arthur (2 for 30), Lyn Richards (2 for 40) and Josh Lewis (1 for 37).

But the target suddenly seemed less formidable as Phil Williams and Richard Harris put on 111 for the first wicket before Williams caught of the bowling of Sam Davies for 64.

Then Harries found another willing ally in the form of Matthew Webb, who rapped a boundary-packed 53 not out in an undefeated partnership of 72 as Harris used his wealth of experience with 61 not out.

Umpires: Huw Davies & Gareth Brace.

Llechryd (132 all out) lost to Saundersfoot (183 for 4) by 51 runs

Saundersfoot made the long journey to Llechryd and came away with a welcome haul of 29 points as they batted well and then put pressure on the home batsmen so that only Steve Smith ever stayed long.

Skipper Sam Franklin was again the pick of the Saundersfoot batting as he hit a boundary-laden 75 not out, ably supported by Phil Jones’ welcome 52 as Graham Keen (3 for 39) and Nick North (1 for 41) were the only successful home bowlers.

Smith top scored with 35 after tea, with cameos from Johnny Lewis (10), Graham Keen (12) and Tomos Davies (13) but Tom Mansbridge (4 for 55) and especially Yannik Parker (3 for 6) bowled well for The Seasiders – and Franklin added 1 for 20 to round off a good afternoon.

Scorers: Will Newell & Adge John.

Narberth (201 for 4) beat Stackpole (200 for 5) by 6 wickets

Narberth overcame a strong challenge from Stackpole as they successfully chased down the visitors’ hefty total of 200 for 5 – and needed only 37 overs to do it!

Rob Mathias (20), John Hughes (17), Richard Mackay (22), Lewys Gibby (14), Yori Roberts (22 not out) and especially Josh Davies (85) helped Stackpole build their score as Ben Quartermaine (3 for 46), Jordan Howell (1 for 34) and Ben Hughes (1 for 37) were the successful Narberth bowlers.

The home side made light of their challenge, however, as Richard Adams (42), Aron Keane (59), Loui Davies (29) and Ben Hughes (24 not out) built useful scores, despite the Stackpole bowling efforts of Mackay (2 for 64), George Smith (1 for 25) and Davies (1 for 27).
