Duggie Morris round 2 round-up

Holders Whitland, Haverfordwest, Kilgetty and Neyland have all reached the Duggie Morris Cup semi-finals.

Holders Whitland won an entertaining tussle at Carew, the home side posted 132-8, with Shaun Whitfield (26), Nick Scourfield (27) and Gareth Lewis (27) contributing runs for the Rooks, as Whitland's Jonny Thomas (3-13) and skipper Iestyn Scourfield (2-36) taking crucial wickets.

However, Whitland batted positively as Geraint Jones (55) struck an excellent half century alongside decent innings from Jonny Thomas (20), Steff Jones (19no) and Jon Strawbridge (17no) as the Borderers finished on 133-3, gaining an impressive seven-wicket victory.

Haverfordwest were due to play Pembroke at the Racecourse, but the visitors were unable to raise a team so the Town have gone through to the last four.

The classy, hard hitting, Paul Murray (100no) stroked a magnificent century for Neyland (163-5) who won an entertaining game at Cresselly (161-4) by 5 wickets.

Alex Bayley (44), Adam Chandler (42no), Iwan Izzard (32) and Phil Williams (23) scored runs for the hosts, while Neyland’s Henry Durrant, Patrick Hannon, Nick Koomen and Geraint Rees took a wicket apiece.

But in reply, Murray took the game by the scruff and was in scintillating form, smashing a rapid eight fours and nine sixes for his excellent ton, but more importantly he guided Neyland into the semis with two overs to spare.

There was an entertaining game at Kilgetty (125-7) who beat Lawrenny (107-9) by 18 runs.

Kilgetty’s Kurtis Marsh was the star all round performer, he struck a superb 66 and also took three wickets. There were also good cameo innings by Marsh’s team-mates Toby Poole (13) and Ross Hardy (22). Harry Thomas (2-26) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (2-16) took wickets in vain for Lawrenny.

Harry Thomas (26), James Phillips (25) and Joe Kidney (16) had solid knocks for Lawrenny, but the visitors fell 18 runs short of their target thanks to excellent bowling spells by Kilgetty’s Kurtis Marsh (3-18) and Alex Thomas (2-24).
