They didn't quite make the record books - but they certainly did their school proud.

Almost 350 pupils at Milford Haven School took to the the field this morning to attempt 279 consecutive rugby passes, without error, and enter the Guinness Book of Records.

The event had been set up by WRU Hub Officer Steve Martin, whose tireless work in setting things up paid dividends with the youngsters clearly relishing an hour out of the classroom.

In sunny but also very windy conditions, the pupils did manage a best of 88 passes, having to start again whevever a ball was dropped or thrown forward. But as Martin said afterwards, it was about far more than the statistics.

"Yes we would loved to have broken a record but this was about getting as many students as possible involved," he said.

"And as staff we are very proud of them for taking part and giving it go. It was a great morning."

He also thanked the head teacher for allowing the attempt to go ahead - and fellow staff members, Sport Pembrokeshire officers, and Milford Haven RFC junior coaches who voluntarily helped.

Also present was the mayor of Milford Haven, Rose Gray, who added: "It's amazing for the School to have so many pupils involved in something and the organisation has been incredible.

"The pupils have been encouraged not to worry about dropping the ball and just take part. And they've had a good time cheering each other on. There has been a really nice atmosphere."
