Michael Thomas Memorial Cup semi final:

Clarbeston Road 4-2 Johnston

A HAT trick from Jason Griffiths eventually settled a hard fought clash between Clarbie Road and Johnston last night – as the home side set up a clash with Carew in Friday’s Michael Thomas Memorial Cup final.

The Tigers were much improved from the side that struggled in Division Two last season, and gave the Senior Cup finalists a stern test as the scores stood 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Clarbie led midway through the first half after an own goal from Johnston’s Chris Phillips, but the visitors were soon level through Scott Crawford’s deflected strike.

That’s how things remained until extra time before Clarbie seized the initiative as Griffiths struck – only for Johnston to again respond through Ryan Doyle.

But in the second half of extra time, it was Griffiths who scored twice to complete a hat trick to finally see off The Tigers – and send Clarbie through to Friday’s final with Carew, who had a bye in their semi final on Monday after Kilgetty were unable to raise a side.

That clash will again take place at the Knock Playing Fields, 6.15pm kick off.
