Pembroke County Cricket club fixtures for Saturday, August 4th:

Division One (1.30pm):

Cresselly v Burton

One of the disadvantages of being in a re-arranged Bowl final, is it means two games in two days.

Cresselly are obviously in no position to rest players or hold back - they trail Haverfordwest by just three points and need four wins from four games. I also suspect the last thing they will want is a long day in the field.

They will go in favourites tomorrow against a Burton team who really need a result themselves - as they lie second bottom and 37 points of safety.

Plenty of Burton batsmen have got runs this season, Toby Hayman in particular, but in recent weeks the have failed to push starts into big totals.

They'll have to correct that tomorrow against Neilson Cole's side, or they could be in real trouble by Saturday night.

Haverfordwest v Whitland

Arguably the clash of the day in Division One as two title contenders meet.

There is only 17 points between leaders Haverfordwest and fourth placed Whitland - and this will determine whether The Borderers enter the final three weeks bang in the race, or as good as out of it.

It's almost too obvious to say they must find a way to get Simon Holliday, fresh from another ton in Kilgetty, out before he has done real damage. But away skipper Iestyn Scourfield has been in real wicket taking form all summer - and won't shy away from the new ball battle.

But likewise, The Town cannot afford to let the in-form Jack Bown get into his stride, ot the scoring rate will soon get away from them. Therefore, opening bowlers Jonny White and Adam James will also be pivotal.

It could be a very close, intense clash this. And the result is pivotal.

Johnston v Lawrenny

I don't mean this disrespectfully, but if Lawrenny knew they would have to play a Division One game a day before one of the biggest clashes in their history - they would probably have chosen Johnston.

The home side have been on a hiding to nothing this season but deserve credit for battling on regardless, and their tendency to win the toss and bat whatever has certainly frustrated a few title contenders!

They also have Hazif Faarooq going for a third straight 50 after great knocks against Haverfordwest and Neyland.

But I doubt Lawrenny will be overly keen on a long day at Glebelands, and Joe Kidney will want his side to get the job done quickly and get their feet up.

Lawrenny do have players away who are due to return home early from certain trips for Sunday, so whether they will be available for this game is doubtful.

Llangwm v St Ishmaels

Tish are not yet safe as they lie 43 points clear of the bottom two, but a result here would go along way to sealing a Division One spot for another season.

The Nicholas twins are beginning to show their potential as both impressed against Cresselly last time out - but skipper Phil Cockburn will know the importance of an all round display against an unpredictable Llangwm side.

Oliver Davies' men can be brutal with the bat at their best, with players like Will Beresford and Matthew Kiff in the runs lately - but are also prone to conceding big scores.

Indeed, in their last two games, they have racked up 501 runs, yet conceded 610.

The home side are safely cemented in sixth place so are likely to play with freedom give they have little to lose or gain - so anything may happen!

Neyland v Kilgetty

Another big game at both ends of the table.

Neyland are third, seven points off the top, and simply cannot afford to slip up. Kilgetty on the other hand, still have much work to do to secure safety.

Sean Hannon may risk batting first tomorrow in a quest to push for 30 points, but the home side will be wary of Kilgetty's threat and in particular, openers Ross Hardy and Kurtis Marsh who batted so well in the first innings of that DR Morris final.

Neyland's Nick Koomen looked superb at times in his knock of 64 in the Jubilee Cup on Tuesday, while Andrew Miller's slow bowling continues to deceive batsmen week in week out.

Kilgetty must find a way to negate the latter, and if they are to have a chance tomorrow then unlike the cup final, if they get in a strong position they must push on from it.
