The Tenby Sharks Boxing Club has made great progress since starting out 12 months ago – but now the club are appealing for help to ensure all that good work isn’t undone.

The club have used the De Valence Pavilion as a training base, but were only able to use the venue for three sessions per week in the summer, two for adults and one for juniors.

But Mark Davies, who has been instrumental in both setting up and running the group, has now learnt the venue will not be available for the whole of September, and will only be free for one session per week thereafter.

“This is no fault of people running the De Valence – they have been amazing support and gave us a home when we had a nowhere to go,” Mark told Telegraph Sport.

“But obviously it’s a community building and so much else goes on there.

“The boxing season starts again in September and to be affiliated with the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association we need to have gym. My worry is if we do become affiliated we could end up losing hundreds of pounds.

“We need a permanent home.”

Therefore, Mark and club members are appealing for at the least, a temporary venue for September, or better still, a long term training base in the Tenby area.

“We need somewhere that the youngsters especially can travel to in the winter months,” he said.

“We are asking people to please think of anybody from any of the local authorities that may be able to help or put us in the right direction, farmers that may have outbuildings available, local businesses that may have an unused basement or shed that's suitable. Nothing is off the table.

“I fear that if we don't find a suitable venue to use in the very near future it could be the end of the club.”
