Llangennech 26.

Whitland 17.

Whitland made a concerted second half fight-back at Llangennech but were unable to fully recover from an interval deficit of 17 points and went down to a third defeat in a row.

Home scrum half Chris Davies gave Llangennech the early lead with a sixth minute unconverted try and within four minutes bustling flanker Rob Fowley also crossed and fly half Jonathan Griffiths converted.

Worse was to follow for the Borderers when outside half Emyr Williams was sin-binned for what looked an innocuous shoulder charge and when they were reduced to 14 men Whitland conceded a third try as a quickly taken penalty allowed wing Andrew Mead to grab a try.

Griffiths missed the conversion but kicked a penalty shortly after young full back Matthew John had opened the Borderers' account with a penalty, leaving Llan with a 20-3 interval lead.

Whitland showed more composure on the ball and built up pressure periods as skipper Randall Williams, Carwyn Davies and the front row began to win better ball.

When flanker Fowley was yellow-carded the Borderers opened their try-count when centre Lee Glanville sliced through to the posts for Williams to convert.

Griffiths landed a Llan penalty but with Raff Williams, Phil Morgan and Gary Lloyd as fresh legs the Borderers scored a second try when Emyr Williams crossed and slotted the extras - and placed his team within a single score of victory.

Whitland hopes were spoilt, however, as they conceded a late penalty from which replacement outside Adrian Thomas found the target and left the Borderers still seeking that important first success of the campaign.
