West Wales Schools' Cup Round 4: Haverfordwest High 7-1 Ysgol Strade

A rampant display from Haverfordwest High Under 15s saw them reach the last 16 of the West Wales Cup with am emphatic 7-1 win, writes Iori Williams.

Haverfordwest were leading within five minutes of kick-off after a neat finish from Tom Mezzetta into the bottom right hand corner.

They nearly went two goals to the good 10 minutes after, after a fierce shot from Leon Davies.

The visitors first chance of the game came from a free kick, and poor marking from the home defenders saw a header go just wide.

However, Haverfordwest High doubled their lead on the 20 minute mark as Mezzetta caught the defence off guard and slotted in off the post. Mezzetta then got his hat trick minutes later, when a half cleared corner found him on the edge of the box and he drove a shot into the bottom corner.

The visitors had a promising period then though and were rewarded with a goal on the 30 minute mark as a free kick was beautifully whipped into the top left hand corner.

Haverfordwest were soon out of sight though as they added a fourth. Henry Thomas got his first goal of the night with a chipped attempt from 20 yards out, leaving the goalkeeper in no man’s land as the first half ended 4-1.

Haverfordwest should have had their fifth after Mezzetta went one-on-one with the keeper, but missed the chance, but soon had his shooting boots back on through ball from debutant James Price set him up to round the keeper and get his fourth goal of the game.

The visitors looked down and out but Haverfordwest still had no remorse as substitute Will Phillips flicked into the path of Mezzetta, who hit a half volley with power into the bottom corner.

Haverfordwest went in search of a seventh but Callum Rees fired inches wide - but then he got a goal late on following a scramble in the area.
