Peter Bowen and Rebecca Curtis send plenty of horses down to Chepstow for Saturday’s Welsh Grand National Trial meeting. Experts from Racing Post have cast their eye over the runners and riders to identify the best chance of a winner at the track both have enjoyed success at over the years.

12.20

Peter Bowen: Francky Du Berlais

Ran well to come second at Ffos Las just over a fortnight ago on soft ground. Keeps his blinkers on and a return to fences could suit, given he’ll be kept to the same handicap mark. Promising young jockey Jonjo O’Neill Jnr takes the ride and he should be good enough to steer his mount into a podium finish if not more.

12.55

Rebecca Curtis: Oscar Asche

Was thrashed by 24 lengths to finish a distant third of four runners on hurdles debut at Bangor. Jack Tudor will take 7 pounds off which may help slightly but best watched today.

1.25

Peter Bowen: Montanna

Blew away the cobwebs by finishing third at Ffos Las after an 11 month absence last time. Has won twice over hurdles, but both victories came on better ground than this.

2.30

Rebecca Curtis: Financial Outcome

Taking jockey Jack Tudor’s 7 pound claim into account, he’ll race with a feather weight on his back but that might not be enough to make him competitive enough to win the first race of his career.

3.05

Peter Bowen: Equus Dancer

A winner of two bumper races at both Perth & Carlisle, this could be one of Bowen’s best chances today, on account of expected improvement from his promising hurdles debut at Carlisle last time.

3.40

Peter Bowen: Drift Rock

Unraced but worth a check in the market on debut thanks to above average breeding. Worth keeping an eye on if there’s money for him and could go close first time out.
