Steve’s sparkling century earns Johnston big win

Johnston (248 for 7 dec) beat Llechryd (62 all out).

A sparkling century by talented 16-year-old Steve Mills Jnr helped Johnston to a massive win over Llechryd at Glebelands and rounded off a miserable season for the already-relegated visitors.

Mills struck five sixes and 11 fours in his superb innings of 126 before he was finally bowled by Mark Vincent. Such was the ferocity of his stroke play that skipper Steve Jenkins was able to declare after 39.3 overs.

Chris Fitzpatrick (48) and Simon Williams (23) were the other main Johnston batsmen Andrew Johnston (2 for 33) and Vincent (1 for 23) were the pick of the Llechryd bowlers.

Faced with such a daunting target, Llechryd were soon in trouble and as home skipper Jenkins had five maidens in his 6.2 overs as he returned classy figures of five for three. Ray Hasler and Adam Maehrlen managed double figures for Llechryd as Fitzpatrick (1 for 4) and Ross Dewstowe (1 for 0) were joined by very occasional bowlers John Summons (1 for 8) and Steve Price (1 for 5) in helping Johnston to a winning margin of 186 runs.

Umpire: Rob Bellerby.

Scorer: Delyth Summons (Johnston).
