Chirpy Robins dish out six of the best

7:00am Thursday 25th September 2008

Pennar Robins 6.

Haverfordwest County 1.

Pennar Robins’ hotshot striker Phil Thompson grabbed a thoroughly deserved hat-trick in his side’s six-goal drubbing of Haverfordwest County at a sun-drenched Bush Camp.

The heat was certainly enjoyed by top-of-the-table Robins, but the visiting Bluebirds quite literally wilted under the pressure.

The hosts led by four goals at the break, so as far as the visitors were concerned it was a classic case of damage limitation in the second period.

Thompson added an early opener, Matthew Jones nodded in a second, Wayne Brunton broke clear to tuck home the third, and Thompson added a fourth just before the interval.

Matthew Jones added the fifth with a timely-struck ten-yard volley before Thompson added the sixth to complete his hat-trick.

The only glimmer of hope for the visitors in a dismal afternoon for them was when Craig George drilled in his side’s goal late on from the penalty spot.
