9:00am Thursday 2nd October 2008

As the young football players from Narberth under-13s team prepare for the start the latest season, they have already scored an important goal.

The team will now be kicking off wearing a new, NatWest branded strip.

The team called into NatWest in Pembroke on Saturday to collect their new kit and to help the branch celebrate the fact they are now open six days a week. NatWest Pembroke opened its doors for the first time on a Saturday, on September 6th.

The initiative providing Narberth under-13s with their new NatWest strip forms part of an all Wales programme, which was launched in January 2005 by the bank to strengthen ties between their staff and communities.

Narberth Youth FC were nominated for the award through Huw Simpkins, who is a customer services officer at the local NatWest branch in Pembroke. Huw also assists to raise much-needed funds for the club.

Huw said: “The under-13s team draw in players from all over Pembrokeshire. It is really difficult for teams like this to raise funds for kit, and this scheme is a superb way for the bank to assist and to strengthen ties with the local community.

“It is great that NatWest has agreed to give its support Narberth just because of my involvement. When you give up your spare time to work for an important part of the community, such as a youth organisation like this team, it’s great to know that the bank is willing to give you their support.”
