Glyncorrwg 5.
Crymych 17.
Crymych showed real grit against Glyncorrwg to record an encouraging Welsh Cup win over a side which looked for a stop-start pattern to play in trying to halt the Preseli Men’s running rugby.
It worked to a degree as Crymych could only muster one try but they were awarded penalties as Glyncorrwg transgressed at ruck and maul so that scrum half Huw Rees could kick the penalties that took them through.
Rees landed two early shots on target to establish a 6-0 lead before Glyncorrwg managed to break down the Crymych defence when right wing Lee Williams crossed for an unconverted try.
But the Preseli Men quickly tightened up their cover as Noam Davey played well at full back as Osian Griffiths and Mark Hamilton covered safely wide out and Martin Jones joined Carwyn Phillips in bottling up the middle.
Another Rees penalty, following good work up front involving John Davies, Trystan Griffiths and Jason Nicholls, was followed by a good forward-orientated try when Andrew Phillips was powered over the line after a line-out on the home 22 metre line.
Cennydd James, Jonathan Hickin, Andrew Morris and skipper Richard Llewellyn all played a part in the Crymych ball-winning and a fourth Rees penalty put the final nail in Glyncorrwg’s coffin and allowed Crymych to progress in the competition.
