Big guns settle for draw

9:32am Wednesday 1st October 2008

Pennar Robins 1.

Monkton Swifts 1.

An 88th minute equaliser by Swifts’ Marcus Taylor denied Robins a victory in a top end of table derby at Bush Camp.

It wasn’t until midway through the first-half that the deadlock was broken, as Robins’ Wayne Brunton’s left footed 30-yarder looped over Swifts’ keeper Wayne Reynolds.

The derby was a pretty even affair from then on, but both sides failed to find the back of the net in the remainder of the half and the second period started as the first-half ended.

Both sides couldn’t convert chances into goals and with just minutes remaining it looked like the Robins would hold on for sweet victory.

However, two minutes from the final whistle the visitors equalised.

Marcus Taylor’s shot getting a deflection from a cross into a crowded penalty box to score and earn a share of the spoils.

This draw sees both sides leap frogged at the top of the table by the Vikings after their victory over Neyland puts them two points clear.
