Solva win feisty ten-men affair

9:34am Wednesday 1st October 2008

Solva 3.

Herbrandston 2.

Solva clinched all three points in a physical encounter against visitors Herbie which saw both sides end the game with ten men.

The hosts took the lead in the opening minute with striker Dai Price heading home the opener.

Despite a disappointing start for the visitors Herbie played some good football towards the end of the half, but going into the break it was the home side that still retained a one-goal advantage.

In the second period it was Solva’s veteran defender Richard Bland who doubled Solva’s lead with a darting header past Herbie keeper Jon Crimmins.

However, despite a comfortable two-goal cushion Solva let the visitors back into the game and talented young striker Josh Smart scored twice with two brilliant finishes to get Herbie back on track.

In the 75th minute striker Price headed home his second and Solva’s third before being sent off by referee Sean O’Connor who saw red after a scuffle broke out between the two sides.

However, Price’s goal proved to be the winner and despite Solva being reduced to ten men Herbie failed to capitalise and just minutes before the final whistle they saw Matthew Price sent off to compound a frustrating day for the visitors.

This result completes a miserable week for Herbie, as Telegraph Sport understands that they’ll probably be deducted three points by the league for playing an illegible player in their recent 4-1 victory at Jesse Road against Narberth.
